A Mighty Storm!

Well all I can say is that Katherine certainly knows how to show a girl a good time!  Half a day in and the wildest storm just went through - I sat in the doorway of my little cottage and watched an amazing thunderstorm roll towards me.  Great gusts of wind and drenching rain, even now I have the laptop unplugged from the wall as the lightning is still barking over the top of me.  Fire engines race in both directions past the house and I suspect more damage has been done elsewhere.

Day One - Coincidental Treasures

Browsing through "By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept" by Elizabeth Smart this morning, after my arrival at KSP, I was seeking to get myself into an appropriately literary head space.  A particular passage stayed with me "I can carry love like St Christopher.  It is heavy but I can carry it.  It's the stones of suspicion I stumble on." p.85  Walking later in the grounds of Katherine's house, with the midday sun a heavy palm upon my head I found these two small figurines. Strangely enough I have yet to find a passage with a Pokemon simile - perhaps I should switch to the Barker....

All comments posted are emailed to me... so even if you delete them..I get to see them - just so you know.  I WILL repost any deleted comments (and have already done so), because I have a great respect for the immediacy of the internet.  It never sleeps, it never forgets and it is ruthlessly authentic.  So please feel free to post comments..flame, revile, laud if you must (please laud!) but be aware that I will make everything posted as public as my own posts.  So think what you like..but only post what you are prepared to share. :)

Edit:  After writing this particular entry I had to turn around and delete a whole lot of crap that was posted by a particular person...so much for my proud boast of ruthless authenticity!!  But it spilled over into my work and I was pretty disgusted and annoyed by their behaviour.  So My NEW PRIVACY STATEMENT is - This is my Blog - I'll write whatever I damn well please - feel free to comment but I will ruthlessly annihilate anything that shits me or bores me!!  There - I fixed it :)

So, after many weeks preparation I am finally off to my Residency tomorrow. And of course the world has decided to provide me with a searing heatwave for my first week in the foothills - luvverly!  Thank goodness the cottages are air conditioned...apparently Katherine wrote every morning on the front veranda and then moved to the back of the house in the afternoon.  When her studio was built she wrote there every day - no cooling at all.  She was made of much sterner stuff that I...

Trying to decide which books I need to take - the pile on the kitchen bench keeps getting bigger and bigger... but there are some I just can't do without... and I am not going to list them because it looks really pretentious.  Suffice to say I am going to write a play about writers who were far more talented and learned and erudite that I so I need as many helpers as I can get. 

4 weeks of pure writing time is going to be blissful!   I am determined to blog every day while I am there...   So don't say you weren't warned..there may even be more poetry...eeek!
